WeatherWatch

Every week of the school year, students from five West Australian schools report their local weather conditions through Channel Seven Perth and the affiliated GWN network on the nightly weather report as part of the WeatherWatch program.

Using school-based weather stations, students and their teachers monitor and report their local maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall.

This ongoing partnership - between the AirWatch program within the Department of Environment and Conservation, Channel Seven Perth and affiliated GWN network and local WeatherWatch schools - is entering it’s 11th year in 2009.

Weather conditions affect air pollution in a number of ways - so a basic understanding of weather is a solid foundation for higher understanding of air pollution issues. Also, the collection and analysis of weather information is essential to the monitoring of our changing climate! In 2009 AirWatch activities will have a focus on the issue of climate change, particularly the Climate Change school incursion and the Energy Smart for Air project.
